Rob Walker

Although he is inspired by the traditional still life painting of the European masters of the genre, particularly the Dutch, Robert has followed a predominately contemporary approach in his own work, creating a more informal feel to the subject.

Whilst his pictures still feature the conventional still life elements of glass, fruit and porcelain he combines these with a mixture of more eclectic items such as antique furniture, rusting metal containers and objets d'art to create a relaxed and satisfying composition. A feature of his work is his ability to convey the space around and behind each of the items in his pictures, creating a truly three-dimensional feel to the painting.

Born in Bedfordshire in 1963 and entirely self-taught, simplicity is the key to his paintings "The simplest object can become a thing of beauty if it is handled in the correct way, which is always the challenge"
